In this exciting minimalist sextet, harmony extrapolates from an open-fifths structure. The 8th-note pulse, largely constant, provides a backbone for the instruments to engage in subtle interplays with melodic and rhythmic motives. Gorgeous, soaring lines for cello and violin permeate the work. At its conclusion, motives are re-shuffled and combined in a new way for a triumphant ending. This pieces bursts with energy and makes for an excellent opening or closing to a chamber music program.
